Trail Bike

Whether you're riding a flowy singletrack, cruising through the countryside on a cross-country ride, or challenging yourself in a bike park, a trail bike provides a tonne of fun in any terrain.

The characteristics of a trail mountain bike

The sturdy frame, high-quality components, and low weight make the trail bike the ultimate all-rounder. From singletracks to bike park trails and even city rides, trail mountain bikes are ready for anything. Therefore, the bike is perfect for longer rides and guarantees fun on descents.

Trail bike: Full suspension or hardtail?

Trail bikes weigh between 12 and 16 kilograms, with a carbon or aluminium frame. The front suspension travel is between 120 and 160 millimetres. Hardtail bikes have a front suspension fork, are lighter, and less expensive than full suspension bikes. A full suspension trail bike provides more traction in corners.

  • Grand Canyon: Our Grand Canyon provides a great entry into the world of trails. This aluminium hardtail is agile and gives you a comfortable ride on many surfaces while you explore.
  • Stoic: Our Stoic is a hardtail but borrows elements of frame geometry from our trail bike, Spectral. This mountain bike is not afraid of technical trails and jump sessions.
  • Neuron: Trail bikes like the Neuron from Canyon are full-suspension all-rounders. With this bike, you can easily handle steep climbs and fast descents on your weekend ride.
  • Spectral: The Canyon Spectral has progressive geometry and lofty 160-millimetre suspension travel. With this bike, your possibilities are almost limitless.
  • Lux Trail: The Canyon Lux Trail is a lightweight trail bike with great pedalling efficiency. It easily manages even steep climbs and offers a well-balanced geometry for flowy descents.

27.5 or 29 inch wheels?

With MTBs, you have the choice between 27.5 and 29-inch wheels. The decision depends on the frame size, the intended use and personal preference.

When encountering numerous bumps and quick downhill sections, 29-inch wheels provide more stability, while riders on bikes with smaller wheels often have to lift the front wheel over obstacles. Smaller wheels provide more manoeuvrability in tight, technical sections. When changing direction, you can more easily move the rear wheel. Larger wheels are slightly heavier and less agile.

Buy Trail Bike online

FAQs

Are aluminum bike frames stronger than carbon fiber? ›

Do carbon bikes last as long as aluminum bikes? As a general rule, carbon bikes tend to last longer as aluminum bikes, since the material is also stronger. However, everything depends on each cyclist, and on the maintenance of the product.

What is the difference between a trail bike and a gravel bike? ›

Mountain bikes are undoubtedly more capable on rougher and steeper off-road trails, although they're not as fast on the road. Gravel bikes are most similar to cross-country bikes, which are designed to cover ground easily and pedal well, while also being able to tackle smaller obstacles and trail features.

Are aluminium bikes worth it? ›

Aluminium gravel bikes are great on all surfaces including roads. In fact, some riders prefer to use an aluminium gravel bike as a winter road bike due to its chunky tyres and durable frame. We've also seen aluminium gravel bikes used as commuting bikes due to their increased comfort.

What's stronger, carbon or aluminum? ›

One of the significant advantages of carbon fiber is its extraordinary strength. Pound for pound, carbon fiber is stronger than steel and aluminum. This high strength is mainly attributed to the unique arrangement of carbon atoms within the fiber structure, which forms strong covalent bonds.

What are the disadvantages of aluminum bike frames? ›

Aluminum simply fatigues more quickly than other materials. This is true with both long-term wear and tear as well as individual wrecks or accidents. Since it's extremely difficult to manipulate aluminum back into its original shape, even seemingly small dings and dents can challenge your nearest mechanic.

What is the life of aluminum bike frame? ›

Aluminum Road Bike Frame Life

It takes about 5 to 10 years.

Can a gravel bike be used on trails? ›

Gravel bikes are more versatile than any other bike. Whether you're heading out for a quick fun ride, a bikepacking adventure, an exploration tour or a round of single trails, the gravel bike can do it all.

Are gravel bikes faster than hardtails? ›

It's safe to say though, that gravel bikes will always get up to speed, and maintain speed quicker than a mountain biker - they are lighter, more aerodynamic and have less rolling resistance.

Can I ride a gravel bike as a road bike? ›

I've covered the key differences between road and gravel bikes before, and the two elements that matter most when adapting a gravel bike to road use are the tires and gearing. Of the two, tires are the most important change, and for many riders, it's the only change they will need to make.

Do aluminium bike frames crack? ›

The biggest risk to an aluminium bike frame is large or sharp impact which would fracture or crack the frame – however, unfortunately, it is a highly common way of damaging a bike frame.

Is 6061 aluminum bike frame good? ›

The 6061 alloy, which is alloyed with magnesium and silicon, is an excellent choice when welding is required, as is the case with bicycle frames. It provides stiffness, structural strength and toughness, good corrosion resistance and good machining characteristics.

Which is better, an alloy or an aluminum bike frame? ›

While aluminium frames offer an impressive balance of strength, stiffness and low weight, aluminium alloys can be prone to long-term fatigue, unlike steel and titanium. However, aluminium frames tend to be less susceptible to crash or accidental damage than carbon frames.

What is better than aluminum? ›

Stainless steel offers superior corrosion resistance and tensile strength at the cost of added weight. When dealing with heat, stainless steel offers better heat tolerance while aluminum offers better heat conductivity.

Do carbon bikes break easily? ›

That's because carbon fiber's incredible stiffness properties come at a price: On its own, it is quite brittle and prone to splitting and cracking.

What is the strongest type of aluminum? ›

Grade 7000

Known as the zinc grades – zinc being the largest alloying element, the 7000 series grades are the hardest and strongest commercial grades of aluminium. Grade 7075 is the most common of the 7000 series grades. It is an extremely high strength alloy; the strongest of all commercial grades of aluminium.

Are carbon fiber wheels stronger than aluminum? ›

Lethenet points out that aluminium alloy's fatigue resistance is lower than that of carbon but it absorbs energy and deflects in case of shock, which is better for safety with the wheel going out of true but not breaking, meaning aluminium would deform under shock while carbon would crack.

Is carbon fiber stronger than 6061 aluminum? ›

Furthermore, reinforced Carbon Fiber has a flexural strength of 540 MPa, compared to 6061-T6 aluminum (<480 MPa).

What are the disadvantages of carbon fiber bikes? ›

Still, this is something to be aware of as frames will wear over time. Carbon fiber can sometimes have a harsh feel on rough roads when compared to steel models. Also, carbon is not nearly as durable as steel. Like aluminum, it's prone to dings and damage if ridden hard or not cared for properly.

What is the best material to make a bike frame? ›

Aluminium is the most common and usually, most affordable bike frame material that you'll come across. Aluminium bike frames are corrosion-resistant, lightweight, and have a decent strength-to-weight ratio.
